Dometic RV Water Heaters by Model

Shop Dometic RV water heaters for motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, and campers. Dometic offers gas and gas/electric water heaters designed for reliable hot water in mobile applications, including current WH-Series models and XT high-output water heaters.

Dometic acquired Atwood Mobile Products in 2014, and beginning in 2017 Atwood water heaters were sold under the Dometic brand. Many older RVs are therefore equipped with Atwood-branded water heaters that are now replaced by current Dometic models.

Current Dometic RV Water Heater Models

Current and recent Dometic WH-Series water heaters include:

Dometic WH-6GA
6-gallon gas-only RV water heater with electronic ignition

Dometic WH-6GEA
6-gallon gas/electric RV water heater

Dometic WH-9GEA XT
6-gallon gas/electric XT water heater designed to provide approximately 9 gallons of effective hot-water capacity

Dometic WH-10GEA
10-gallon gas/electric RV water heater

Dometic WH-16GEA XT
10-gallon gas/electric XT water heater designed to provide approximately 16 gallons of effective hot-water capacity

Dometic currently highlights the WH-6GA and WH-9GEA XT in its U.S. water-heater catalog, while its broader water-heater literature also identifies gas/electric 6-gallon and 10-gallon configurations.

Dometic 6-Gallon RV Water Heaters

Dometic 6-gallon water heaters are designed for RVs that use the traditional compact water-heater opening found in many travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes.

The Dometic WH-6GA is a 6-gallon gas-only water heater with electronic ignition and a 10,000 BTU burner. Its aluminum tank is corrosion resistant and does not require an anode rod.

The Dometic WH-6GEA adds 120-volt electric heating capability, allowing the water heater to operate using LP gas, electric power, or both depending on the installation and operating conditions.

Dometic XT RV Water Heaters

Dometic XT water heaters are designed to increase usable hot-water capacity without requiring a proportionally larger tank.

The Dometic WH-9GEA XT uses a physical 6-gallon tank but is designed to provide approximately 9 gallons of effective hot-water capacity. The larger WH-16GEA XT uses a 10-gallon tank while providing approximately 16 gallons of effective hot-water capacity.

This makes XT models useful for RV owners who want greater hot-water availability while maintaining a water heater that fits within a conventional RV installation.

Dometic Gas and Gas/Electric Water Heaters

Dometic RV water heaters are available in gas-only and gas/electric configurations.

Gas-only models use LP gas as the primary heat source and typically require 12-volt DC power for electronic ignition and controls.

Gas/electric models add a 120-volt electric heating element, allowing the water heater to operate from campground or generator power when available. Depending on the model, gas and electric heat may also be used together to improve recovery time.

Replacing an Older Atwood Water Heater

Many older Atwood RV water heaters are now replaced by Dometic WH-Series models. Because Atwood is now part of Dometic, current Dometic water heaters may supersede older Atwood G6A, GC6AA, G10, GC10A, GH, GCH, and XT-Series water heaters.

Common replacement relationships include:

Atwood G6A and GH6 gas models
Commonly replaced by the Dometic WH-6GA

Atwood GC6AA and GCH6A gas/electric models
Commonly replaced by the Dometic WH-6GEA

Atwood G9-EXT, GE9-EXT, and GEH9-EXT models
Replaced by the Dometic WH-9GEA XT

Atwood G10 and GC10A 10-gallon models
Commonly replaced by the Dometic WH-10GEA

Atwood G16-EXT, GE16-EXT, and GEH16-EXT models
Replaced by the Dometic WH-16GEA XT

The exact replacement should always be verified using both the original water heater model number and product number. Some older Atwood water heaters may also require an adapter bracket, replacement access door, wiring changes, or other installation components.

For example, Dometic specifically lists the WH-6GA as a direct replacement for several older product numbers, including 96110, 96121, and 96136, and recommends adapter brackets when required for older installations.

Dometic Water Heater Doors and Installation Kits

Dometic replacement water heaters are often sold without an exterior access door. The correct door depends on the water heater model, RV opening, color, and whether the installation is replacing an older Atwood water heater.

Adapter brackets may also be required when installing a newer Dometic WH-Series water heater in an opening originally designed for an older Atwood model.

Always verify the required water heater, door, adapter, and installation dimensions before ordering.

Choosing the Correct Dometic RV Water Heater

Start by identifying the complete model and product number of the water heater currently installed in your RV.

When replacing an older Atwood water heater, do not select a replacement based only on tank capacity. Gas versus gas/electric operation, ignition type, physical dimensions, door size, wiring, and original heat-exchanger features can all affect replacement compatibility.

Shop Dometic RV water heaters by model, size, or fuel type to find the correct replacement for your RV.
