The WH-6GEA is a popular choice for RV owners who want to use campground electricity while connected to shore power without giving up propane operation while traveling or camping without hookups.

Dometic WH-9GEA XT Gas and Electric Water Heater

The Dometic WH-9GEA XT uses a physical 6-gallon tank combined with Dometic XT mixing-valve technology. By blendiold water, the system provides the equivalent of approximately 9 gallons of usable hot water.

This model is designed for RV owners who want longer showers and increased hot-water capacity without installing a substantially larger water heater.

Dometic WH-10GEA 10-Gallon Gas and Electric Water Heater

The Dometic WH-10GEA is a traditional 10-gallon gas and electric RV water heater. Its larger storage tank makes it a suitable option for families, larger motorhomes, fifth wheels, and RVs with greater daily hot-water demands.

The WH-10GEA may replace-gallon Atwood or Dometic water heaters. However, the installation opening, tank depth, utility connections, control wiring, and exterior access door should be verified before ordering.

Dometic WH-16GEA XT Gas and Electric Water Heater

The Dometic WH-16GEA XT is the highest-capacity XT model in the current Dometic RV water heater lineup. It combines propane and electric heating with mixing-valve technology to deliver the equivalent of approximately 16 gallons of usable hot water.

This model is designed for larger RVs, multiple occlications where a conventional 6-gallon or 10-gallon water heater may not provide enough hot water.

Gas-Only Dometic RV Water Heaters

A gas-only Dometic RV water heater is a straightforward choice for RV owners who frequently dry camp or primarily rely on propane. The Dometic WH-6GA is the current gas-only model in the lineup.

Although it does not use a 120-volt electric heating element, the WH-6GA still requires propane and 12-volt DC power for its electronic ignition and and Electric RV Water Heaters

Dometic gas and electric water heaters provide more flexibility than gas-only models. Propane can heat the water while camping without electrical hookups, while the electric heating element can be used when the RV is connected to shore power.

Current Dometic gas and electric water heaters include the WH-6GEA, WH-9GEA XT, WH-10GEA, and WH-16GEA XT.

Using propane and electricity together may also improve recovery time when combined operation is supported by the water heater and RV control system.

Dometic XT RV Water Heaters

Dometic XT water heaters use mixing-valve technology to increase the amount of usable hot water produced by the tank. Water is heated to a higher temperature inside the tank and then blended with cold water before reaching the RV’s faucets and shower.

This design allows an XT water heater to provide greater hot-water output without requiring a tank of the same physical capacity. Current Dometic XT models include the WH-9GEA XT and WH-16GEA XT.

Replacing an Older Atwood RV Water Heater

Dometic acquired the Atwood water heater product line, and many older Atwood RV water heaters now cross over to current Dometic models. However, matching the gallon capacity alone is not enough to confirm replacement compatibility.

Before selecting a replacement, locate the complete model number and product number on the original water heater. Important factors include:

• Gas-only or gas and electric operation

• Tank capacity

• Water heater depth

• RV sidewall cutout dimensions

• Exterior access-door dimensions

• Water-line locations

• Propane-line location

• 12-volt DC wiring

• 120-volt AC wiring

• Existing switches and control wiring

• Required adapter kits or conversion components

An older 6-gallon Atwood water heater may not automatically cross over to every current 6-gallon Dometic model. Always identify the complete original model number before ordering a replacement.

Do Dometic RV Water Heaters Require an Anode Rod?

Current Dometic tank-style RV water heaters use aluminum tanks and generally do not require a sacrificial anode rod. This differs from many steel-tank RV water heaters that rely on an anode rod to help protect the tank against corrosion.

Use the drain plug specified for the water heater rather than installing an aftermarket anode rod unless Dometic specifically approves it for that model.
