Suburban Water Heater Gas Valve 161111

The Suburban 161111 Water Heater Gas Valve is an OEM thermostat and propane gas control used on select Suburban SW6P and SW10P pilot-ignition RV water heaters. This valve controls propane flow to the pilot and main burner while regulating water temperature.

Unlike the gas valves used on Suburban DSI water heaters, the 161111 is designed for manually lit pilot-model water heaters. Model and serial number should be checked carefully before ordering.

  • Serial number 95360122 and above — Suburban 161111 is the correct gas valve

  • Earlier SW10P models used a different 3/8" NPT inlet x 3/8" inverted-flare outlet thermostat gas control. Suburban's factory replacement-parts literature lists that earlier control as no longer having an available part number.

Important: Suburban 161111 is intended for pilot-ignition SW6P and SW10P water heaters. It is not the gas valve used on SW6D, SW6DE, SW10D, SW10DE or other Direct Spark Ignition (DSI) models.

Signs of a Bad Suburban Water Heater Gas Valve

Common symptoms include:

• Pilot light will not stay lit

• Pilot operates but the main burner does not receive propane

• Main burner fails to ignite after the pilot is established

• Water does not reach the proper temperature

• Burner does not cycle correctly

• Gas control becomes difficult to operate

• Internal thermostat or safety control fails

Potential Issues

Before replacing the gas valve, inspect the pilot burner, thermocouple, propane supply, burner assembly, gas connections, and pilot flame. A weak or improperly positioned pilot flame or failing thermocouple can cause symptoms similar to a defective gas control valve.

Because Suburban used several different thermostat/gas controls during production of its pilot-model water heaters, always verify both the model and serial number before ordering.

After installation, all propane connections should be carefully checked for leaks before operating the water heater.

If you have a Suburban SW6P with serial number 962802562 or higher, or an SW10P with serial number 95360122 or higher, Suburban 161111 is the correct gas valve for your water heater.
