Description

Suburban 525023 Burner with Orifice – SW-Series Water Heaters

The Suburban 525023 Burner with Orifice is the OEM replacement burner service kit used on select Suburban SW-Series RV water heaters.

This assembly delivers the LP gas and air mixture into the combustion chamber, where it is ignited to heat the water heater tank. A damaged, corroded, restricted, or improperly burning burner can cause poor ignition, unstable flame, soot buildup, or reduced water-heater performance.

The 525023 service kit replaces older Suburban burner assembly number 010843.

Fits Suburban RV Water Heaters

Suburban 525023 is used on select later-production SW-Series water heaters, including:

  • 6-gallon SW-Series models after serial number 953401118

  • 10-gallon SW-Series models after serial number 953601021

These serial-number breaks are important because earlier Suburban water heaters may use a different burner configuration.

Replaces Suburban 010843

The Suburban 525023 is the service-kit replacement for:

  • 010843 – Burner with Orifice

Suburban parts breakdowns identify 010843 as the original component number and 525023 as the corresponding service kit.

What the Burner Does

The burner is responsible for directing the LP gas and combustion air mixture toward the water heater's combustion chamber.

During normal operation:

  1. LP gas is supplied through the gas valve and manifold.

  2. Gas passes through the burner orifice.

  3. Air mixes with the gas inside the burner tube.

  4. The mixture is ignited at the burner.

  5. The flame travels into the combustion chamber and heats the tank.

Correct burner and orifice sizing is critical for safe and efficient combustion.

Common Signs of a Burner Problem

Inspect or replace the burner if you experience:

  • Burner will not stay lit

  • Weak or unstable flame

  • Yellow or excessively orange flame

  • Soot around the exhaust or combustion chamber

  • Delayed ignition

  • Popping or fluttering during operation

  • Visible corrosion or damage to the burner

  • Heavy rust or debris inside the burner tube

Before replacing the burner, also inspect the gas pressure, gas valve, electrode, combustion chamber, and burner orifice for blockage or contamination.

Installation

Estimated Installation Time: 15–30 minutes

Tools Typically Needed

  • Screwdriver

  • Wrenches as required

  • Compressed air or soft brush for cleaning

  • Leak-detection solution

Before servicing:

  1. Turn off the LP gas supply.

  2. Turn off the water heater and allow it to cool.

  3. Disconnect 12V and 120V power where applicable.

  4. Remove the existing burner assembly.

  5. Inspect the manifold and surrounding combustion area for debris or corrosion.

  6. Install the new burner and orifice assembly.

  7. Restore the LP gas supply.

  8. Check all disturbed gas connections for leaks.

  9. Operate the water heater and verify a stable, properly shaped flame.

Never enlarge, drill, or modify the burner orifice.
