Description

Suburban 521135 IW60 Nautilus Water Heater Module Board

The Suburban 521135 Module Board is the OEM main control board used on the Suburban Nautilus IW60/ 5186A/ 5286A on-demand RV water heater. This board controls the primary operating functions of the IW60, including the ignition sequence, gas-valve operation, flame monitoring, safety inputs, and other water-heater functions.

Suburban’s current factory parts manual identifies 521135 specifically as the module board for the IW60. It is separate from the dedicated blower-control board used on the same water heater.

Models It Fits

The Suburban 521135 fits:

  • Suburban IW60

  • Suburban Nautilus IW60

  • Suburban Advantage IW60

  • Suburban 5186A

  • Suburban 5286A

Current parts listings specifically cross-reference the 521135 to the IW60 / 5186A / 5286A / Nautilus / Advantage water-heater family.

Important: IW60 Only – Not IW60RL

The 521135 is for the original IW60 platform.

It should not be confused with the later IW60RL, which uses a different module board:

  • IW60 → 521135

  • IW60RL → 521212

Suburban’s current replacement-parts manual lists these as separate module boards for the two water-heater versions.

It also does not fit the newer ST-42 or ST-60 tankless water heaters, which use different control boards.

What the 521135 Control Board Does

The 521135 is the primary electronic control board for the IW60.

It manages most water-heater functions, including:

  • Ignition sequencing

  • Gas-valve control

  • Flame-sensing logic

  • Monitoring temperature and safety inputs

  • Coordinating burner operation

  • Shutting the heater down when an unsafe condition is detected

Suburban describes the 521135 as the board that controls all IW60 functions except the blower controls.

Separate Blower Control Board

The IW60 uses a second circuit board specifically for the blower system.

The dedicated blower-control board is:

Suburban 521136 – IW60 Blower Control Module

That means an IW60 can have an electronic failure even when the 521135 main board is functioning correctly. The factory IW60 parts breakdown lists both boards separately:

  • 521135 – Main Module Board

  • 521136 – Blower Control Module

If the complaint is specifically related to blower operation, diagnose the blower circuit before replacing the 521135.

Signs & Symptoms of a Failed 521135

A faulty main control board may cause:

  • Water heater will not initiate an ignition sequence

  • No spark at the burner

  • Gas valve does not receive the proper command

  • Burner lights but will not remain operating

  • Water heater repeatedly attempts ignition and locks out

  • Heater is completely unresponsive even with proper power

  • Intermittent burner operation

  • Safety sensors test correctly but the water heater still fails to operate

Because the IW60 has a separate blower board, blower-only problems do not automatically indicate a failed 521135.

Before Replacing the Control Board

Before condemning the 521135, verify:

  • Proper 12V DC supply voltage

  • Good chassis and appliance grounds

  • LP gas supply and pressure

  • Ignition electrode / flame probe

  • Gas valve

  • Water-flow sensor

  • Temperature probe

  • Overheat sensor

  • Limit switch

  • Air-pressure switch

  • Wiring and connector condition

  • 521136 blower-control board when the complaint involves the blower

The IW60 contains multiple sensors and safety devices that can prevent ignition when the main board itself is functioning normally. The factory parts breakdown identifies these as separate service components.

IW60 vs. IW60RL vs. ST-60

These Suburban tankless models should not be treated as the same water heater for control-board fitment.

IW60 / Nautilus

Uses:

521135 – Main Module Board

and

521136 – Blower Control Board

IW60RL

Uses:

521212 – Main Module Board

ST-60

Uses:

521339 – ST-60 Control Board

Always verify the complete water-heater model before ordering.

Estimated Install Time

Approximately 20–45 minutes, depending on access to the water heater and wiring.

Tools Required

  • Phillips screwdriver

  • Nut driver or basic hand tools

  • Multimeter

  • Electrical contact cleaner if required

Installation Notes

Disconnect 12V DC power and shut off the LP gas supply before servicing the water heater.

Before removing the original board:

  1. Photograph all wiring and connector locations.

  2. Verify that the water heater model is IW60, not IW60RL or ST-60.

  3. Inspect connectors for corrosion, heat damage, or loose terminals.

  4. Confirm proper incoming voltage and ground.

  5. Check the related safety sensors before replacing the board.

Product Specifications

Important Fitment Note

The Suburban 521135 is specifically the main module board for the original IW60 Nautilus / Advantage tankless water heater.

It does not replace the blower-control board, and it should not be ordered for an IW60RL, ST-42, or ST-60.

If the problem is limited to blower operation, diagnose the 521136 blower-control board and associated airflow components before replacing the 521135.
