Description

Dometic Atwood 92078 Gas Valve Assembly for 6-Gallon DSI Water Heaters

The Dometic Atwood 92078 Gas Valve Assembly is an OEM replacement propane valve for legacy six-gallon Atwood and Dometic RV water heaters equipped with direct spark ignition. The dual-solenoid valve controls propane flow to the burner during the ignition and heating cycle.

When the water heater calls for heat, the ignition control board supplies 12-volt power to the valve. The solenoids open, allowing propane to pass through the orifice and burner tube. A failed or sticking gas valve can prevent the burner from igniting, interrupt propane flow or cause intermittent water-heater operation.

The 92078 is intended for six-gallon electronic-ignition models. It does not replace the mechanical gas thermostat used on pilot-light water heaters. Established Dometic parts dealers identify it as the replacement gas-valve assembly for six-gallon Atwood/Dometic DSI water heaters.

Models It Fits

The Dometic 92078 fits many six-gallon Atwood electronic-ignition water heaters, including models within these families:

  • Atwood G6A electronic-ignition water heaters
  • Atwood GH6 electronic-ignition water heaters with motor-aid heat exchange
  • Atwood GC6A and GC6AA gas/electric water heaters with electronic ignition
  • Atwood GCH6 and GCH6A gas/electric water heaters with motor-aid heat exchange

Common compatible models include:

  • Atwood G6A-2E
  • Atwood G6A-3E
  • Atwood G6A-4E
  • Atwood G6A-6E
  • Atwood G6A-7E
  • Atwood G6A-8E
  • Atwood GH6-3E
  • Atwood GH6-4E
  • Atwood GH6-6E
  • Atwood GH6-7E
  • Atwood GH6-8E
  • Atwood GC6A-7E
  • Atwood GC6AA-7E
  • Atwood GC6AA-8E
  • Atwood GC6AA-9E
  • Atwood GC6AA-10E
  • Atwood GCH6-4E
  • Atwood GCH6-6E
  • Atwood GCH6-7E
  • Atwood GCH6A-7E
  • Atwood GCH6A-8E
  • Atwood GCH6A-9E
  • Atwood GCH6A-10E

Dometic part number: 92078
Application: Six-gallon Atwood/Dometic DSI water heaters
Ignition type: Electronic direct spark ignition
Fuel: LP propane
UPC: 713814223854

This valve does not fit pilot-ignition models such as the G6A-7, GH6-7 or GC6AA-8. Those water heaters use a mechanical pilot-style gas control rather than a 12-volt solenoid valve.

Verify the complete model number and compare the valve, mounting arrangement and burner connection before ordering.

Signs You May Need This Part

  • The water heater sparks but the burner does not ignite
  • Propane does not reach the burner during an ignition attempt
  • The valve does not click when the water heater calls for heat
  • The burner operates intermittently
  • The water heater repeatedly enters ignition lockout
  • The burner lights only after several attempts
  • One or both gas-valve solenoids test open
  • The valve receives proper 12-volt power but does not open
  • The valve sticks after the water heater has been stored
  • The gas valve is visibly corroded or physically damaged
  • Propane leaks from the valve body or connection
  • The existing valve has a damaged terminal or wiring connection

Similar symptoms may be caused by low propane pressure, air in the gas line, a blocked burner orifice, a dirty burner tube, low 12-volt power, damaged wiring, an open thermostat or ECO circuit, or a failed ignition control board. Atwood service literature specifies that voltage at the gas solenoid valve should generally remain between 10.5 and 13.5 volts DCduring operation.

Estimated Installation Time

Approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Installation time may vary depending on water-heater accessibility, propane-line condition, corrosion and whether the burner or orifice requires cleaning. After installation, verify burner alignment, confirm a stable blue flame and inspect all disturbed propane connections with an approved leak-detection solution.
